Why Rae Sremmurd's ScremmLife is the Album of the Year

Exploding into the scene in August of 2014 with No Flex Zone the rap duo Rae Sremmurd was at first dismissed as just a fad. The high pitched voice of Khalif "Swae Lee" Brown, balanced off by his brother Aaquil "Slim Jimmy" Brown, spitting bars about money and bitches coupled with the fact that only one of them being barely legal to partake in alcohol was quite hard to take seriously and attracted much criticism. Nevertheless Rae Sremmurd dominated the second half of 2014 and all of 2015, with hit after hit. Digging in deeper into their album you can see that it's not all nonsense either. No Flex Zone is a song about being an individual going to get opportunities for yourself while No Type is an ode to keeping one's mind open. It's not all fast and kinetic either, Throw Some Mo slows it all down, while stealing being ridiculously infectious, offers a great dose of variety to the album with a fantastic feature from Nicki Minaj.
The album of the year is suppose to be about the album that captured the majority of the people's ears in said year. Nearly everyone has heard multiple, if not the majority, of the songs on this album, either on the radio, at a party, or a sporting event. It's an infectious pop-rap masterpiece that deserves many more accolades than it will receive. If someone were to ask what album really captures the year 2015 I'd, without hesitation, hand them ScremmLife.
